Laws play a major role in society. They outline the boundaries for what is and isn’t allowed, and they help to protect our civil rights. Laws govern every aspect of our lives from what we eat to how we vote. Therefore, it’s important that we understand them as best as possible so that we can live happily and peacefully with one another.
Without laws, our society will not be able to function properly. Laws provide us with a sense of security and stability which is essential for society’s survival. When one law gets broken, it affects the entire system because people begin to break other rules because they think it’s okay. This leads to social unrest and anarchy, where we live in fear instead of peace and serenity.
Why Laws are Important
Laws help us develop a sense of responsibility and morality so that we don’t have to worry about being harmed by others because the law will protect us. Without laws, there would be no justice system in place which means that people who break them won’t get punished for their actions. This leads to distrust towards one another. When nobody trusts each other, society will eventually fall apart.
However, not all people appreciate the laws that govern society. Some of them think that laws are too restrictive and not practical. They think that laws are only made to be broken especially when it comes to obeying traffic rules like using cell phones while driving or parking illegally. Others complain about the inconvenience of having certain departments in public offices close on weekends since they can’t do their business then.
But if you really stop and think, laws have helped society in so many ways. Let’s take a look at some examples:
- Laws prohibit the use and possession of illegal drugs such as cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin, etc. The law ensures that these substances will not ruin lives and families since they can also cause addiction to users who would want more than just one hit or dose. Therefore, individuals who are caught using or in possession of these drugs are penalized depending on the severity and quantity. The law ensures that they will not be able to do this without legal consequences since doing otherwise would allow them to continue ruining lives and families with their actions.
- Laws ensure safety for everyone by regulating how cars should be driven or parked, making sure people follow traffic rules and regulations, and making sure people do not endanger others or those around them.
- Laws protect individuals by making sure that business owners follow the rules and regulations regarding their businesses so employees will be protected from risks to their safety, health, personal security, economic security, welfare, the standard of living, and etc., which are important. If laws were abolished, then there would be no regulations for businesses to follow. This could result in the prevalence of fraudulent activities in the business sector.
- Laws help protect the environment by making sure companies do not dump hazardous materials into water or land, and that they dispose of their trash properly so there would be no environmental threats. If laws were abolished, then people will have no control over their actions which could harm the environment significantly.
- Laws regulate the healthcare sector so that people can be sure that they are getting genuine products and services. If laws were abolished, then people do not know what is real or fake in healthcare which could result in them purchasing low-quality medicines or treatments. A medical malpractice lawyer would then have to be contacted so that people can be compensated for their medical bills and suffering.
- Laws make it mandatory for businesses to provide the right working hours of employees so there would be no labor violations committed by companies. If laws did not exist, then companies can take advantage of their employees by forcing them to work for 24 hours straight or more. Employees of companies would then need the help of employment lawyers so that they could get paid compensation for working overtime and other benefits which are not given in accordance with labor laws.
Abiding by Laws
Individuals should abide by the laws so that they will not be subject to punishments such as fines, jail time, or even the death penalty depending on the severity of the crimes committed. If laws were abolished, people would do whatever it takes to get away with criminal acts which could lead them into committing serious crimes again due to the lack of consequences.
People should abide by the laws to ensure fairness and equality among all members of society. Following the law means that everyone is treated equally under the eyes of the law regardless of who they are or what position they hold in life. Abiding by laws also helps maintain peace, order, and safety within a community which allows people to live their lives without fear of being attacked or threatened.
